Jane’s Addiction’s Perry Farrell’s ‘90s project Porno for Pyros will be on stage at the Belasco this Thursday. Frankie & the Witch Fingers and Starcrawler are also slated to perform, as is Perry Farrell’s own Kind Heaven Orchestra.
All of this falls under the Heaven After Dark nightlife event series which was a product from the minds of Farrell and wife Etty Laura Farrell. However, many people thought they’d caught their last glimpse of Porno for Pyros when Jane’s Addiction reformed.
The pertinent press release said, “Heaven After Dark focuses on iconic and emerging musicians, performance artists and variety acts to showcase alternative music, underground culture into one cosmic event. The inaugural event in the Heaven After Dark series took place back in Feb. of this year. The series aims to revive the original spirit of Lollapalooza when it had more of a traveling carnival feel, mixed with some elements of Andy Warhol’s Factory, with a mix of musicians, visual artists, street performers, comedians, DJs and surprise special guests. Blending together an artistic fusion of old and modern art, cultural curators and notable music creatives, attendees will be exposed to one of the innovative and immersive entertainment-based events of 2022.”
Farrell himself, in 2018, said the following about the Kind Heaven album: “I live life and I look at life through the eyes of a musician and artist. To work with people I admire as artists and as people, that makes what I do even greater, it’s like being on a championship team. When you simply write only your own music and don’t collaborate with people, after a while your song is going to sound the same. It doesn’t matter who you are. You have a certain body resonance. We all resonate slightly differently. If I would only write my own music, by the fourth record you’d say that you’ve heard it before. I write and collaborate with people. Working with these guys frees me up to be more of a specialist. I like the idea of having the freedom to concentrate on a certain part of it.”
